The research group of Dr. Sunghee Lee has just published a peer-reviewed research article, titled “Molecular Organization in Mixed SOPC and SDPC Model Membranes: Water Permeability Studies of Polyunsaturated Lipid Bilayers”, appearing in Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA)-Biomembranes, an imprint of Elsevier Publications. The paper is coauthored by three undergraduates, Shea Foley (’19 Biochemistry), Elizabeth Miller (’19 Biochemistry), Samuel Braziel (’18 Chemistry), and Dr. Lee. This article investigates the role of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) on the properties of model cell membranes, as well as the process of water permeation across bilayer membranes, using the droplet interface bilayer model and Raman microspectroscopy. Congratulations to the research team!
